Third Eye Installation Systems has an impressive skill base in Rail projects. Its strong presence in the Rail environment is a reflection of its strategy to concentrate on building relationships with customers and focusing on projects where Third Eye can add value and, very importantly, deliver projects on time and within budget.
October 5th 2008 was the date when Shepherds Bush station reopened after being closed for some ten months. Third Eye had responsibility to install and commission the station’s security and communications systems, along with additional design works. Like most station refurbishments the Comms element is generally behind all other trades and this is where Third Eye, with daily site meetings with all trades, managed to be in front, and in turn completed the project working to a very tight program. Third Eye started work on site in the middle of June 2008, carrying out the first cable pulls when areas became available; they also carried out CMS installation to allow new areas of work to be opened up.
The complete ticket hall was demolished and rebuilt by Capital Projects-Morgan Est. to allow the new ticket hall and station offices to be built. The station was first opened in the 1900, some 109 years ago, and many areas of the basement needed rebuilding, which again added delays to the final works. Third Eye was based on-site, day and night, seven days a week, holding co- ordination meetings with the required contractors to ensure that any areas of lost production was quickly brought back in-line with the over program.
Third Eye installed over 80,000 metres of cable, 83 cameras, complete with DVR recorders and event alarm recording, Passenger awareness monitors, 9 Zone Public Address PA/VA along with some 450 speakers, Customer Information Systems, Help Points, and local synchronised station clocks. The systems were then integrated into a Station Management System (SMS) by Third Eye Installation Systems, and operated by the station staff within the station operation room.
Third Eye also installed the station door entry access control system, along with door monitoring, which is monitored and controlled by the SMS PC. Third Eye also provided the As-built drawings, equipment schedules and finally the Operator and Maintenance manuals.
The station was opened on October 5th 2008 and Third Eye successfully installed the Comms/Security systems within a tight timeframe of just twelve weeks. Working as a team with other contractors, whereby Third Eye was available 24/7, we managed to complete
The success of this project was down to pro-active and dedicated companies all working as one to ensure a successful conclusion to this project.
Steve Holmes Project Director of Capital Projects-Morgan Est says: “Third Eye Installation Systems supported the Project in every respect and worked closely with Morgan Est and our other suppliers in a collaborative way to find workable solutions on a project that was both time and space constrained. Third Eye works were completed on time and are an excellent supplier that we would certainly recommend.”
